Favorite Freebie Linky

It is almost Friday - almost time for some giveaways!

Before the big celebration starts up, I want to participate in a fun link-up!  2nd Grade Pad is hosting a freebie linky party!

I am gonna share my favorite freebie from my store and let you know a little about it!

My favorite freebie is my Wild About Numbers pack.  I love it.  I love math!

It is my favorite because...
I love teaching math.  It is so fun watching the kids grow and learn.  It is great to watch them be and FEEL  successful.  This pack is great for kids with different levels of math ability.  Plus, it is a fun dice game - they don't even know they are learning!

The story behind it...
I made this when I was trying to teach the kids to add using the different dice we had around the room.  Most of the kiddos were ready for addition but I had a couple kids who still needed some number practice.  I did not want the kiddos who were not ready to add to feel left out, so I created a new page for them to use dice and blend right in with their buddies!

How to use it...
I use this pack in all sorts of ways.  I will use it small group for some targeted practice, in workstations for independent practice and whole group.  Since there is a page for number identification (two levels), a page for addition and a page for subtraction, I can use this pack for a while!

I hope you enjoy it!  Don't forget to stop by for the 5-day-giveaway!

Celebrate Good Times :)

100 readers, wow!

Thank you all  for stopping by and reading.

I am so thrilled to have reached the *100* reader mark that I want to celebrate with a giveaway.  I have some amazing teaching/blogger friends who are going to help me celebrate by donating some incredible items.  Yay!  So actually, the generosity of my friends will spread out over five days.  That means you will have five chances to win some amazing stuff!

I am so humbled and honored at all of the support I received from each of these wonderful ladies!  Please make sure you check out their blogs as well!

The party will start on Friday and continue through next week!

I hope to see you all soon!

To kick it all off, I want to offer you a copy of the questioning posters we use in my room.  I love hanging these around the room so that the kiddos can refer to them when we are asking questions.

Enjoy!

Independence Day!

Okay, so it is not the 4th of July, but I just really like to party celebrate independence!  It is time we start exercising our independence in Kindergarten.
I LOVE workstations and can hardly wait to start.  I have been teaching enough years and have played with a few different 'gradual release' models and have found one that really works!

We start by building stamina.

Iuse these number cards to help build my students’ stamina for independentwork.  Building their stamina forindependent work is what allows me to introduce workstations so early in theyear. I have found that if I build my students’ stamina up, workstations aremore successful all throughout the year.
I place the cards in orderon a shelf – anywhere visible to all students. We talk about what it means to build stamina and why we are buildingstamina.  I explain that our goal is tobe able to work independently for 10 minutes. We then discuss what it means to work independently.  It has even been effective for me to modelwhat IS independent and what IS NOT.  Thekiddos like to get some sort of reward when they make it to ten minutes – thispast year, they wanted popsicles.
I explain how we will start with one minute and if they can work independentlyfor one minute, we will take down the “1” and will work towards the “2” thenext day.  I also explain that if wecannot achieve the “2” after two attempts, we will bring the “1” back up andtry it again.

Thisis the same if we are on the “8” – if we cannot achieve independent work foreight minutes in two attempts, we bring back the “7” card and work towardsthat.  We are continually discussing whatstamina is and what it means to work independently.  I ask the kiddos to share the goal with meeach day before we work to earn the next card.

Oh man, if you read all of that you deserve a copy of these cards!  FREE!

I made two sets - a colored set and a black and white set.  I like to use bright paper, but I made the colored set just for you!

We are working towards 6 minutes tomorrow.  Wish us luck!  I cannot wait to start workstations - stay tuned!

So Much To Do, So Much To Teach!

Oh goodness...  I feel like this time of the school year is INSANE!

I have all of these fantastic ideas and remember how easy it was to get through things last year.  Ah yes, I am remembering my kinder kiddos from the end of last year.  I think *we* primary teachers forget about all of the madness that takes place the first few weeks.  Hmm...  I must get my act together and get these kids ready for all of the amazing things we will be accomplishing.

Only one problem.

I have so much to do and absolutely NO TIME at the beginning of the year {in kinder} to do it.  If you are like me, the first step is organizing and creating lists.  I love lists.  I am one of those people who will write things on my to-do list that I have already done just so I can cross it out and feel accomplished! Love it.  LOVE it!
I made this great little to-do list after my friend Jillian made one that matched the colors of her class.

You can grab yourself a FREE copy of it HERE!

Oh man, as I started writing down everything I had to do, my list got a little out of control.  Eek!  I need to take a sub day just to prepare for all the things I was to do, make and learn with my kiddos.

First things first!  I need to get all my alphabet crafts organized and ready to go.  I put them all in a binder with a tab marking each letter and all of the corresponding activities.  Now I can grab them quickly and easily.  I even pre-cut some paper and shapes and slipped them into sleeve protectors so that on the day-of, I would not need to spend time cutting or gathering supplies.  Everything is ready to go.

We make a craft for every letter and I have made a file for you if you would like to grab it. (I posted about this in Alphabet Crafts)

The kiddos love to make a craft every day and it helps connect what we are learning to something 'real immediately.  We are applying our letter-sound relationships each day!  Gotta love that!

Here is a picture preview of the pack:

I have included a picture of a student created craft for each letter along with a short description of how we made it.  I hope you love them!

Please let me know how much you like them!
