Wahoo! Now we also finished our phonogram review and have started to dig deeper into segmenting and blending to read.<br />
I love this time of year.<br />
<br />
There are many different ways we teach blending in Kindergarten. Each teacher has his/her own unique way (or a way your basal tells you ;) ) to intro blending. If your like me, you probably sneak some blending into each lesson LONG before you explicitly teach it. Sneaky sneaky! I love giving my kids an opportunity to hear something being used while I am thinking aloud - even if I have not explicitly taught it yet.<br />
We do TONS of blending activities as a class. We do TONS of blending with to sound words. We do TONS of blending with simple CVC words as a group before I 'release' them!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
The way I introduce it in independent practice is with our <a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Underwater-Word-Blending" target="_blank">Underwater Words</a> station. This station is a great transition from sounds to words.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-M7j8xVbNy70/ULkjzqEiwTI/AAAAAAAAAk0/ln3r6z3gXsI/s1600/photo+1%25285%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-M7j8xVbNy70/ULkjzqEiwTI/AAAAAAAAAk0/ln3r6z3gXsI/s320/photo+1%25285%2529.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I break the cards into groups. (I use six groups in my room). I introduce a new group of cards as the kids get more comfortable with the phonograms we have been learning in class. Most of the groups include a few phonograms and some simple words using those phonograms. <br />
At this station, the kids can pull a card down and say either the sound or blend to read. If he/she can read it, he/she can keep it. If the card cannot be read, it goes back onto the board. The kiddo with the most cards at the end is the winner!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bSSBUn7VVTY/ULkj1f-53FI/AAAAAAAAAk8/deDxnOlPwt8/s1600/photo+2%25286%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bSSBUn7VVTY/ULkj1f-53FI/AAAAAAAAAk8/deDxnOlPwt8/s320/photo+2%25286%2529.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I just attach some magnet tape and stick them to a magnetic surface. My students LOVE this station. They espcially love when I change out the set of cards. Challenge time!<br />
<br />
<br />
I also created a couple other blending games. In <a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Alien-Words-Blending-Sounds" target="_blank">Alien Words,</a> the kids are practicing blending simple CVC words. Some are real words and some are nonsense words.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Alien-Words-Blending-Sounds" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lFKDf6qn_7A/ULk1Tj43apI/AAAAAAAAAlg/zHMvmjE4blI/s320/alien.png" width="254" /></a></div>
<br />
The cards can be placed face down. Each player will take a turn to grab a card. If the card is read/blended correctly, the student can keep the card in his/her stack. If the card was not read correctly the player puts it back in the pile to be read another time. If you are playing with your students, you can read/blend it correctly and then put it back in the pile. If a player pulls our an ALIEN all of his/her cards must be read and placed back into the pile. BUMMER!<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Alien-Words-Blending-Sounds" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Hm8j_U5JPck/ULk1aXHiqMI/AAAAAAAAAlo/8e4D8apsbWs/s320/alien1.png" width="249" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The words in this pack sequence from simple to complex to fit the needs of all my learners.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
We also use a game called <a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Real-vs-Nonsense-Bubble-Gum-Sort" target="_blank">Bubble Gum Words.</a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Real-vs-Nonsense-Bubble-Gum-Sort" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-T2Rvf34uQoE/ULk2KBc5VMI/AAAAAAAAAlw/Hlq7ofV8Vrk/s320/bubble+gum.png" width="251" /></a></div>
<br />
Students will get a chance to decode words and decide if they are real
or nonsense by sorting them into the appropriate squares. <br />
Also included in the pack is an accountability worksheet – a great way
for you to manage student participation while you are working with
another group.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Real-vs-Nonsense-Bubble-Gum-Sort" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Zi0JBrUmzFI/ULk3YC3xbcI/AAAAAAAAAmA/IQY6Z3STpbY/s320/bubble.png" width="250" /></a></div>
<br />
I love blending. I hope you love this activities and kind find a use for then in your classroom.<br />
<br />
<br />
What is your favorite way to have your kiddos work independently with blending?<br />

FB page</a> during my 30 days of Project Gratitude!<br />This is a special time of year when should take a few extra minutes to remember all of the things we have to be thankful for. It is so easy to get busy/distracted, but try and take a step back each day and be thankful for all that you have around you.<br />
<br />
Our smallest learners tend to be thankful for people rather than things. I love to read this poem with my kiddos each year and make a hand-print turkey! Get your copy of this <a href="https://docs.google.com/open?id=0Bw7vDAbrL07iRVNOYUZNYzhhTmM" target="_blank">FREEBIE here!</a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://docs.google.com/open?id=0Bw7vDAbrL07iRVNOYUZNYzhhTmM" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9sDRc7dFkh4/UKVLOZPUrvI/AAAAAAAAAjw/NRDXGuJQZFo/s320/Untitled.png" width="306" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
They love their mom and dad (and grandmas and grandpas and aunts and uncles and...) so we send this home so that parents are reminded of these tiny little blessings in their lives.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2PrTjBW-95Y/UKVLm07uqyI/AAAAAAAAAkA/a-hwXFvqpk8/s1600/photo+3(6).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2PrTjBW-95Y/UKVLm07uqyI/AAAAAAAAAkA/a-hwXFvqpk8/s320/photo+3(6).JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I just print this poem on construction paper (free at my school) and have then write their names on the bottom. I call them up and paint their hands. They love it! I paint the palm and the thumb brown for the body and the fingers fall colors for colorful turkey feathers.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vfXDucbAH9Y/UKVLb9a_jXI/AAAAAAAAAj4/2Lx1zcaVc-Q/s1600/photo+1%25284%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vfXDucbAH9Y/UKVLb9a_jXI/AAAAAAAAAj4/2Lx1zcaVc-Q/s320/photo+1%25284%2529.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
After they are dry, I take a sharpie and draw feet and a beak. <br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">sorry it is up-side down, I can't get them to flip</td></tr>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dOBFDSREbkE/UJwwVl1tmgI/AAAAAAAAAjA/05DUAvhz27A/s1600/photo+2%284%29.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dOBFDSREbkE/UJwwVl1tmgI/AAAAAAAAAjA/05DUAvhz27A/s320/photo+2%284%29.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
We have been working towards 'real' workstations for a while now. We started <a href="http://idowedoyoudo.blogspot.com/2012/09/independence-day.html" target="_blank">building stamina</a> by working as a class [independently] for 10 mins, then moved to working in smaller tables groups, then to small groups and finally to our workstation buddy groups! Yay!<br />
It was wonderful walking around the room and observing the kiddos working in their small groups. I loved it. I am hoping to pull small groups starting Monday!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BJiFAX4vuFc/UJwwgBEDUeI/AAAAAAAAAjI/AfDKw-H3C3U/s1600/photo+5%283%29.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BJiFAX4vuFc/UJwwgBEDUeI/AAAAAAAAAjI/AfDKw-H3C3U/s320/photo+5%283%29.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I use a pocket chart to manage my stations. The kids rotate twice each day and work there way through eight stations each week. *We have a 1/2 day on Wednesdays, so no time for stations! <br />It was kind of crazy when I was trying to figure out how to rotate them, so I created this chart that helped me. Now, I don't use the chart. I am able to just gather the cards in my hand and move them around.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-s0Em0RDEgMQ/UJwyYVnG6bI/AAAAAAAAAjQ/lYA59lWc3jE/s1600/Untitled.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-s0Em0RDEgMQ/UJwyYVnG6bI/AAAAAAAAAjQ/lYA59lWc3jE/s320/Untitled.png" width="297" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I created these<a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Workstation-Rotation-Cards" target="_blank"> station cards</a> to go in the pocket chart for easy management and rotation. They have the station title and a corresponding picture.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Workstation-Rotation-Cards" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="248" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-m_nwKjoTwtM/UJwtD0VPVYI/AAAAAAAAAiY/HE9GRYbj1HA/s320/station+cards.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I just LOVE using these! I have included over 20 different types of cards - library, poetry, big books, housekeeping, writing, etc. I have also included a few blank cards so that you can add special stations for your room! <br />
<br />
If you are looking for station ideas and ways to keep your kids accountable during station time, you should check out my <a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Workstations-Pack" target="_blank">Workstation Pack!</a> I created station posters and accountability sheets to help manage my kids while I am working with a small group.<br />
<br />
<br />
Also, it drives me insane when you ask a kid what he/she did at a station and he/she says, "nothing" or "played"... Ahh! Come on, I did not create all of these wonderful learning experiences just for you to say, "nothing"!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Workstations-Pack" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="205" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-SxEvjxOirgE/UJwvrS1WkfI/AAAAAAAAAi4/OEG5DxWgBF0/s320/station+card.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The station posters and worksheets include:<br />
-write the room (primary line and bottom line)<br />
-listening <br />
-blending<br />
-nonsense word<br />
-pocket chart<br />
-writing<br />
-blocks<br />
-puzzles<br />
-word quilt (word wall)<br />
-library<br />
<br />
Not only can the worksheets be used to manage accountability, but they
can also be used as an assignment (for a grade), an assessment or as a
checklist for workstation incentive.<br />
<br />
I hope you can use these!<br />
<br />

<br />
A friend of mine recently challenged herself to post things she was thankful for each day for 30 days in reference to 'Project Gratitude'. After reading her posts about this wonderful idea, I began to search the web for "Project Gratitude" - holy smokes, there are so many people doing great things. If you have an extra minute (ha!) you should Google it and see the great things happening all around you!<br />
<br />
This time of year it is easy to get side-tracked with our crazy kiddos, lessons, crafts, decorating, bills, baking, parties... ahhhhh! EVERYTHING! I want to take a few minutes every day and jot down/remember all the great things in my life. I am going to post daily about a few things I am thankful for on the<a href="https://www.facebook.com/IDoWeDoYouDo" target="_blank"> I Do, We Do, You Do! Facebook page</a> and encourage you to do the same. Please hop on over, check it out and add a few things of your own!<br />
<br />
Remember, there are things all around us EVERY DAY to be thankful for. If you are having a difficult time getting started, be thankful for these wacky guys and their funny 'Gratitude Dance' :)<br />
<br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen" frameborder="0" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/R9z2ELaBVJY" width="420"></iframe>
<br />
What is something you are thankful for RIGHT NOW?<br />

I used her Alphabet Vacation. This activity was great. There are many different ways you can use it. You can have the kids bring in items (the way in which it was created), bring in items yourself OR make it a treasure hunt! <-- This is what I did.<br />

Her product comes with a great letter you can send home to parents telling them what is going to be happening in class and asking them to participate.<br />

<br />
<br />
I was not sure how it would work out in my tiny room with each kid bringing in a suitcase, so I improvised! Gotta love that! Her activity lends itself so easily to an alphabet treasure hunt.<br />
<br />
So, when the kids came to school the Monday after we finished learning the first twenty-six phonograms, our alphabet was missing and this is what we found: <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-r1qOkVwW6pU/UHBok-S0ykI/AAAAAAAAAgY/nkh0B3Ywvno/s1600/photo+1+(13).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-r1qOkVwW6pU/UHBok-S0ykI/AAAAAAAAAgY/nkh0B3Ywvno/s320/photo+1+(13).JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
Of course we needed them! How could we continue learning without them?! So, the hunt began!<br />
As we go through our alphabet a the second time, we are focusing on isolating sounds. Each day we review a new sound. Each day we need to hunt for our review phonogram. How else will we be able to learn more about/with the phonogram if our alphabet is on vaca?!<br />
I tried to find places around campus or in our room that begin with that phonogram. For example, the first sound we needed was /t/. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LgB6NQ0-0XY/UHBovPGuRCI/AAAAAAAAAgk/uuuVMDCynN4/s1600/photo+2+(14).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LgB6NQ0-0XY/UHBovPGuRCI/AAAAAAAAAgk/uuuVMDCynN4/s320/photo+2+(14).JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
When we were reviewing /l/, we found that tricky phonogram in the library.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-yE-YEwH3s5g/UHBo-oCEWvI/AAAAAAAAAgs/5PK0F0v-5F4/s1600/photo+3+(13).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-yE-YEwH3s5g/UHBo-oCEWvI/AAAAAAAAAgs/5PK0F0v-5F4/s320/photo+3+(13).JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AtG3j_OMtIk/UHBpACzqVHI/AAAAAAAAAg0/WyLr50JFJ4U/s1600/photo+4+(13).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AtG3j_OMtIk/UHBpACzqVHI/AAAAAAAAAg0/WyLr50JFJ4U/s320/photo+4+(13).JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Since our adventurous letters packed up and headed out for some R&R, we had to get our passports ready. Each kiddo is responsible for getting five 'stamps' on his/her passport. Sometimes we find phonograms as a class and sometimes we find them as a small group. Once, there there was a sneaky letter in someone's backpack - sneaky /r/ found her way into the backpack of a girl whose name begins with that sound.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UGmHw5Umt8M/UHBpqKNRpaI/AAAAAAAAAg8/kL4z2ld1L-k/s1600/photo+3+(14).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UGmHw5Umt8M/UHBpqKNRpaI/AAAAAAAAAg8/kL4z2ld1L-k/s320/photo+3+(14).JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
This week a group of kiddos found the /p/ vacationing on the playground!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9HEIKdhHncc/UHBp3_Ai0GI/AAAAAAAAAhE/-h_gctakUoI/s1600/photo+3+(12).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9HEIKdhHncc/UHBp3_Ai0GI/AAAAAAAAAhE/-h_gctakUoI/s320/photo+3+(12).JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As we were searching, we found /p/ and a cup full of /p/ stamps.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GovDhrMYYag/UHBqLTsiEpI/AAAAAAAAAhM/1GJuUHrC2FA/s1600/photo+1+(12).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GovDhrMYYag/UHBqLTsiEpI/AAAAAAAAAhM/1GJuUHrC2FA/s320/photo+1+(12).JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Whenever we find one of our vacationing letters, we glue them in our passport. I had also considered printing them onto labels since Mrs. Brinn's template is perfect for that, but I thought we could use more experiences with glue.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_X8tjnW4wnU/UHBqlM7K5GI/AAAAAAAAAhY/ZrIa62zOukI/s1600/photo+1+(14).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_X8tjnW4wnU/UHBqlM7K5GI/AAAAAAAAAhY/ZrIa62zOukI/s320/photo+1+(14).JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Since this is only our first week reviewing the letters, we still have lots more to find. I plan on getting very creative... think props! I will be sure to post more pics and keep you updated!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The kiddos love this activity and look forward to going on adventures every day. This has really helped motivate them to go through the alphabet a second time.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

Okay, maybe you're not, but I am! ;)<br />
<br />
So, we started writing journals. In years past it has driven me NUTS when they kiddos can't seem to write on the 'next blank page' no matter how much I preach it. I would look through journals weeks later and find pages have been skipped or an entry from November is right next to an entry from February. Ugh. I can only blame myself - what am I NOT doing? Well, I love the way the ribbon is working out with my <a href="http://www.idowedoyoudo.blogspot.com/2012/09/math-books.html" target="_blank">math books</a>, so...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9BsZ1vMjHrE/UGz8GjdkwjI/AAAAAAAAAfQ/QOVUVod_fKc/s1600/photo+1+(11).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9BsZ1vMjHrE/UGz8GjdkwjI/AAAAAAAAAfQ/QOVUVod_fKc/s320/photo+1+(11).JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-aSRlOPQN-jY/UGz8IdSPVuI/AAAAAAAAAfY/e-8Im3ryAOc/s1600/photo+2+(12).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-aSRlOPQN-jY/UGz8IdSPVuI/AAAAAAAAAfY/e-8Im3ryAOc/s320/photo+2+(12).JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--SEk0ZBu_vY/UGz8KwnngCI/AAAAAAAAAfg/8S7pLy9jMnM/s1600/photo+3+(11).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--SEk0ZBu_vY/UGz8KwnngCI/AAAAAAAAAfg/8S7pLy9jMnM/s320/photo+3+(11).JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I glued them into our journals! I will be sure to let you know how they work for us. I am hoping we have the same luck success with book marker.<br />Wish me luck and easy grading when I go back through them!<br />
<br />
I also created this simple journal cover template.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Journal-Cover-FREEBIE" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jArF8jeuGLg/UGz87z1HLwI/AAAAAAAAAfo/hXPRxBc1hXA/s320/journal+cover.png" width="247" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
It will print to be half of an 8.5x11 page. Enjoy this fun and easy <a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Journal-Cover-FREEBIE" target="_blank">FREEBIE</a>!<br />We use primary writing journals, so I just let the kids color in their own cover and taped them on sideways. You can always shrink or enlarge to better suit your likes.<br />
<br />
Seriously though, I am still hearing that Britney song!<br />
<br />
Have a great Wednesday!<br />

This past week has been so busy - good busy. My mom was in town and we got to have a mommy/daddy vacation! I loved it!<br />
<br />
Back to business. I was going back and forth FOREVER about how to manage our student workbooks in math. This is the first year my school has ever given us a kindergarten student consumable. I was nervous. How the heck was I supposed to find the page EVERY day for EVERY kid until they learned to count past 10?!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WOWImS_aiVI/UGdvuguvWuI/AAAAAAAAAd4/Pei46EWqyK8/s1600/photo+%25283%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WOWImS_aiVI/UGdvuguvWuI/AAAAAAAAAd4/Pei46EWqyK8/s320/photo+%25283%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
(that's a lot of pages!)</div>
<br />
Well, I love how my planner has a special bookmark that is attached so I started thinking of ways to attach something to the student books.<br />
<br />
Voila! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZQqtoVkHFZE/UGdv3YrHLAI/AAAAAAAAAeM/p5rAlhv5F3c/s1600/photo+2+%25286%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZQqtoVkHFZE/UGdv3YrHLAI/AAAAAAAAAeM/p5rAlhv5F3c/s320/photo+2+%25286%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I cut and glued a long piece of ribbon to the back cover of each book. I think I measured it to be about 3-4inches longer than the book.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kqFoL6e_5Mk/UGdvyI-pCbI/AAAAAAAAAeA/3UzRKr3-9S4/s1600/photo+1+%25283%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kqFoL6e_5Mk/UGdvyI-pCbI/AAAAAAAAAeA/3UzRKr3-9S4/s320/photo+1+%25283%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GfDJJr5ORkk/UGdv4ng8Y7I/AAAAAAAAAeU/_lgZilNQnYw/s1600/photo+3+%25284%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GfDJJr5ORkk/UGdv4ng8Y7I/AAAAAAAAAeU/_lgZilNQnYw/s320/photo+3+%25284%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uFNsGkTVMAs/UGdwsdIPHcI/AAAAAAAAAec/sQFZoxKRPUE/s1600/photo+4+(4).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uFNsGkTVMAs/UGdwsdIPHcI/AAAAAAAAAec/sQFZoxKRPUE/s320/photo+4+(4).JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I thought that it was going to take FOR.EV.ER. but it actually moved very fast. My kiddos love it and think they have something really special! After a week or two of use, they are pretty good at it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LCfoJ0KcFME/UGdwt427kOI/AAAAAAAAAek/cqeTMHOi8fQ/s1600/photo+5+%25281%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LCfoJ0KcFME/UGdwt427kOI/AAAAAAAAAek/cqeTMHOi8fQ/s320/photo+5+%25281%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Hopefully you can use this idea in your room. I purchased 3 spools (is that what they are called) of ribbon and only used 1 1/2 of them for 24 books.<br />In hindsight, I wish I would have bought a thicker ribbon. Kids can be rough!<br />
<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2ndgradepad.blogspot.com/2012/09/my-favorite-freebie-linky-party.html" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ww75z0dO-9M/UFFPR6dNGSI/AAAAAAAAAYA/f8yzekh4G7k/s320/fav+freebie.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I am gonna share my favorite freebie from my store and let you know a little about it!<br /><br />My favorite freebie is my <a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Wild-About-Numbers-FREEBIE" target="_blank">Wild About Numbers</a> pack. I love it. I love math!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Wild-About-Numbers-FREEBIE" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FPvm0bqrOqE/UFFP3BHHm5I/AAAAAAAAAYI/lfsxqhQHjjA/s320/cover.jpg" width="244" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">It is my favorite because...</span><br />I love teaching math. It is so fun watching the kids grow and learn. It is great to watch them be and FEEL successful. This pack is great for kids with different levels of math ability. Plus, it is a fun dice game - they don't even know they are learning!<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The story behind it...</span><br />
I made this when I was trying to teach the kids to add using the different dice we had around the room. Most of the kiddos were ready for addition but I had a couple kids who still needed some number practice. I did not want the kiddos who were not ready to add to feel left out, so I created a new page for them to use dice and blend right in with their buddies!<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">How to use it...</span><br />
I use this pack in all sorts of ways. I will use it small group for some targeted practice, in workstations for independent practice and whole group. Since there is a page for number identification (two levels), a page for addition and a page for subtraction, I can use this pack for a while!<br />
<br />
I hope you enjoy it! Don't forget to stop by for the 5-day-giveaway!<br />

It is time we start exercising our independence in Kindergarten. <br />
I LOVE workstations and can hardly wait to start. I have been teaching enough years and have played with a few different 'gradual release' models and have found one that really works!<br />
<br />
We start by building stamina. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OkMFKDMOVHI/UEa7gtbM-yI/AAAAAAAAAV4/lQglioAoeKM/s1600/photo+1+%2810%29.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OkMFKDMOVHI/UEa7gtbM-yI/AAAAAAAAAV4/lQglioAoeKM/s320/photo+1+%2810%29.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<b><span style="font-family: AbcPrint; font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Iuse these number cards to help build my students’ stamina for independentwork. Building their stamina forindependent work is what allows me to introduce workstations so early in theyear. I have found that if I build my students’ stamina up, workstations aremore successful all throughout the year.<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<b><span style="font-family: AbcPrint; font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi; mso-fareast-font-family: Calibri; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-latin;">I place the cards in orderon a shelf – anywhere visible to all students. We talk about what it means to build stamina and why we are buildingstamina. I explain that our goal is tobe able to work independently for 10 minutes. We then discuss what it means to work independently. It has even been effective for me to modelwhat IS independent and what IS NOT. Thekiddos like to get some sort of reward when they make it to ten minutes – thispast year, they wanted popsicles. <br />
I explain how we will start with one minute and if they can work independentlyfor one minute, we will take down the “1” and will work towards the “2” thenext day. I also explain that if wecannot achieve the “2” after two attempts, we will bring the “1” back up andtry it again. </span></b><br />

<div class="MsoNormal">
<b><span style="font-family: AbcPrint; font-size: 16.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Thisis the same if we are on the “8” – if we cannot achieve independent work foreight minutes in two attempts, we bring back the “7” card and work towardsthat. We are continually discussing whatstamina is and what it means to work independently. I ask the kiddos to share the goal with meeach day before we work to earn the next card.<br />

I feel like this time of the school year is INSANE! <br />
<br />
I have all of these fantastic ideas and remember how easy it was to get through things last year. Ah yes, I am remembering my kinder kiddos from the end of last year. I think *we* primary teachers forget about all of the madness that takes place the first few weeks. Hmm... I must get my act together and get these kids ready for all of the amazing things we will be accomplishing. <br />
<br />
Only one problem.<br />
<br />
I have so much to do and absolutely NO TIME at the beginning of the year {in kinder} to do it. If you are like me, the first step is organizing and creating lists. I love lists. I am one of those people who will write things on my to-do list that I have already done just so I can cross it out and feel accomplished! Love it. LOVE it!<br />
I made this great little to-do list after my friend <a href="http://ourpinterestingclassroom.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Jillian</a> made one that matched the colors of her class.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Oh man, as I started writing down everything I had to do, my list got a little out of control. Eek! I need to take a sub day just to prepare for all the things I was to do, make and learn with my kiddos.</div>
<br />
First things first! I need to get all my alphabet crafts organized and ready to go. I put them all in a binder with a tab marking each letter and all of the corresponding activities. Now I can grab them quickly and easily. I even pre-cut some paper and shapes and slipped them into sleeve protectors so that on the day-of, I would not need to spend time cutting or gathering supplies. Everything is ready to go.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We make a <a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Alphabet-Crafts-Craftivities#" target="_blank">craft for every letter and I have made a file for you</a> if you would like to grab it. (I posted about this in Alphabet Crafts)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The kiddos love to make a craft every day and it helps connect what we are learning to something 'real immediately. We are applying our letter-sound relationships each day! Gotta love that!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here is a picture preview of the pack:</div>

The kiddos get a little crazy with the new knowledge and fun activities, but they love crafting!<br />
<br />
Every time we learn a new phonogram, we make a craft and read an informative book with a title/topic that begins with the new phonogram. ~I made a set of corresponding alphabet crafts a few years back~ This week, one of our new phonograms was /o/ - all three sounds.<br />
So...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qnXI5MUkIWE/UDbP-a4saeI/AAAAAAAAASs/NxBkxSAy3rI/s1600/photo+1+(4).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qnXI5MUkIWE/UDbP-a4saeI/AAAAAAAAASs/NxBkxSAy3rI/s320/photo+1+(4).JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
We read an informative book about octopus AND made an octopus craft. I was able to mix a little science and informative recall with our alphabet activities. Genius!<br />
<br />
When we first started crafting our alphabet, we made a chart that had the order of our directions. The kiddos love referring to it when they need a little reminder in the middle of a craft<br />
.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QnM1pNpu9No/UDbQxnAt5oI/AAAAAAAAAS0/JcaCgZ9dHiY/s1600/photo+5+(3).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QnM1pNpu9No/UDbQxnAt5oI/AAAAAAAAAS0/JcaCgZ9dHiY/s320/photo+5+(3).JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Since each craft follows the same basic steps, they came up with these four simple directions/reminders.<br />
<br />
<b><u>1. Trace.</u></b><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hxggF4FGnxs/UDbRJ5ApXBI/AAAAAAAAATY/HW66ckVvcDM/s1600/photo+3+%25285%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hxggF4FGnxs/UDbRJ5ApXBI/AAAAAAAAATY/HW66ckVvcDM/s320/photo+3+%25285%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<b><u>2. Cut</u></b><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Cp-mVl7WurI/UDbRHVZVBII/AAAAAAAAATI/f25DAKdU-cc/s1600/photo+1+%25285%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Cp-mVl7WurI/UDbRHVZVBII/AAAAAAAAATI/f25DAKdU-cc/s320/photo+1+%25285%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<b><u>3. Glue</u></b><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VToZfCuLe7o/UDbRK1-W2oI/AAAAAAAAATg/IZXh_eUG4Uw/s1600/photo+3+%25286%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VToZfCuLe7o/UDbRK1-W2oI/AAAAAAAAATg/IZXh_eUG4Uw/s320/photo+3+%25286%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rSuyfjIaSwY/UDbRIlBskrI/AAAAAAAAATQ/3jeFI2ikSMQ/s1600/photo+2+%25287%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rSuyfjIaSwY/UDbRIlBskrI/AAAAAAAAATQ/3jeFI2ikSMQ/s320/photo+2+%25287%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<b><u><br /></u></b>
<b><u>4. Color/Decorate</u></b><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Q3EXsUTxb-w/UDbRGEVDM8I/AAAAAAAAATA/mtxce3nF5I4/s1600/photo+%25286%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Q3EXsUTxb-w/UDbRGEVDM8I/AAAAAAAAATA/mtxce3nF5I4/s320/photo+%25286%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kBTJXBRWrnI/UDbR4XsTpnI/AAAAAAAAATo/aiQAkeAA6as/s1600/photo+4+(6).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kBTJXBRWrnI/UDbR4XsTpnI/AAAAAAAAATo/aiQAkeAA6as/s320/photo+4+(6).JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
So much fun! We hang them on our alphabet wall and refer back to them all year long when talking about beginning sounds.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Since our class has already been DIBELS tested, we have been working on identifying capital and lowercase letters. We do different alphabet exercises all day long to incorporate this skill, but the kiddos really seem to LOVE the<a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Sweet-Letters-Matching-and-Word-Building" target="_blank"> ice-cream letters</a> we have been using in small group. I call out a letter and they find the capital and lowercase letters to make an ice-cream cone. Fun stuff!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

How do you know it is back to school time?<br />
<br />
I know that I have a serious shopping problem. I want to buy everything I see. I cannot go into a store around this time of year without walking down each aisle in hopes that i can find something my classroom or my kiddos will NEED!<br />
<br />
So, here is goes...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MkOdl87Nwkc/UDEmCDf1ikI/AAAAAAAAAPA/zUoMiLurHcI/s1600/you+know.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MkOdl87Nwkc/UDEmCDf1ikI/AAAAAAAAAPA/zUoMiLurHcI/s320/you+know.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Seriously, it is a problem. How can I be sure there isn't something I need down 'that' aisle? The worst part is that I have all these great ideas for items I find and buy but sadly, only a few if my brilliant ideas ever see the light of day. It is thought that counts, right?!<br /><br />How do you know it is back to school time?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ED8XvqGt6bw/UDEm5HMyCzI/AAAAAAAAAPI/qBZdyw4ZEqM/s1600/sig+(1).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="40" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ED8XvqGt6bw/UDEm5HMyCzI/AAAAAAAAAPI/qBZdyw4ZEqM/s320/sig+(1).jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />Krishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12628109505686293155noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2561847506468409876.post-41084654742232024622012-08-17T21:25:00.001-07:002012-09-19T15:04:44.009-07:00Behavior Freebie!The first week of school is over - we made it! We all survived. No one got lost, everyone got lunch, we laughed, we cried, we hugged and we learned a little about each other. I learned a bit about the behaviors of the kiddos in my class.<br />
The first week is never easy, but I think we did a pretty good job! By the end of the week, the kiddos were really starting to understand that I mean business and learning how our new behavior system works. As a grade level, we decided to use the Class Dojo *FREE* internet system.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.classdojo.com/" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fBw-FwdQwi0/UC8QP8NFRSI/AAAAAAAAARE/bS07OpimMGQ/s320/dojo+site.png" width="248" /></a></div>
<br />
I LOVE it! It is wonderful. It is 100% free and totally easy to use. I know people have differing opinions about the card system, so when my friend Jill suggested Dojo, I was thrilled!<br />
<br />
Dojo is easy to understand and a cinch to set up. It provides a site tutorial when you log in for the first few times. It even gives you a demo class to mess around with.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jkUhRLfEBpg/UC8QPTJ9S5I/AAAAAAAAAQ8/DwJOsFk6oBI/s1600/dojo+1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="246" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jkUhRLfEBpg/UC8QPTJ9S5I/AAAAAAAAAQ8/DwJOsFk6oBI/s320/dojo+1.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UagnzPnjvjw/UC8QQHu7u4I/AAAAAAAAARM/bhMfoMru2Z0/s1600/dojo2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="179" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UagnzPnjvjw/UC8QQHu7u4I/AAAAAAAAARM/bhMfoMru2Z0/s320/dojo2.png" width="320" /></a></div>
Ha! Did you notice the names?!<br />
<br />
All you have to do is click on a kiddos' name, choose a positive or negative behavior and.... Voila! A point is assigned. The system even allows for you to change the behaviors listed.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Kk1s-LVv9_E/UC8QQgpJJKI/AAAAAAAAARU/n7div1d2y_M/s1600/dojo3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="184" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Kk1s-LVv9_E/UC8QQgpJJKI/AAAAAAAAARU/n7div1d2y_M/s320/dojo3.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Parent communication. <--- I think this may be the part I love the most about this system. At any moment, you can click on a kiddos' name and it will give you a graph with a break-down of their choices. Wait, it gets better! With the click of your mouse, you can email it directly to parents. LOVE it!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2KBfIJ6gAp0/UC8QRIuAl3I/AAAAAAAAARc/Rpt1sLE_w_Q/s1600/dojo4.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2KBfIJ6gAp0/UC8QRIuAl3I/AAAAAAAAARc/Rpt1sLE_w_Q/s320/dojo4.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nKOEiTz51B8/UC8QRU_5dAI/AAAAAAAAARk/QFKIwlYH_Os/s1600/dojo5.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="171" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nKOEiTz51B8/UC8QRU_5dAI/AAAAAAAAARk/QFKIwlYH_Os/s320/dojo5.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
It is that simple. This is a great way to track behavior and reward positive choices as well. Parents love this!<br />
<br />
I have decided to email my parents at the end of each week.<br />
<br />
I think it would be great to let the points accumulate for one month. I think that this is a great way for my kiddos to earn some really fun things with their great choices. Here is a copy of the 'menu' I have created for my kiddos.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://docs.google.com/open?id=0Bw7vDAbrL07iUlAzS05pNTBGSnM" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HsmxDeG9vHk/UC8UVI8hdEI/AAAAAAAAAR8/t998sq9RmD0/s320/rewards.png" width="261" /></a><span id="goog_2018079103"></span><span id="goog_2018079104"></span><a href="http://www.blogger.com/"></a></div>
My kiddos have the opportunity to earn all sorts of fun things that won't cost me too much money. I have placed a copy of this menu in every cubby. Each time they achieve a point goal, they bring me the menu, I sign it, date it and give them their reward. FUN! <br />
At the end of the month, I will send it home so that parents can check it all out!<br />
<br />
I made a <a href="https://docs.google.com/open?id=0Bw7vDAbrL07iUlAzS05pNTBGSnM" target="_blank">couple different menus if you would like a copy</a> or if you just wanna check them out for your little one!<br />

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pFZEZ85pJgA/UC3BAOWO7oI/AAAAAAAAAQk/g40m_gx-_u0/s1600/photo+(5).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="223" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pFZEZ85pJgA/UC3BAOWO7oI/AAAAAAAAAQk/g40m_gx-_u0/s320/photo+(5).JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Seriously, this makes me giggle! Even in kinder we should be working at home. Here are some things you can do with your kinder babes:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<u><b>Show him/her school matters - praise your childs efforts</b></u>. Show him/her how wonderful his/her schoolwork is by posting artwork and school papers on the refrigerator for everyone to see. Communicate the idea, in both words and actions, that school is important.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<u><b>Read it and experience it.</b></u> Connect what your child reads with what happens in life. If you have read a book about animals, relate it to your last trip to the zoo.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<u><b>Trace and say letters</b></u>. Have your child use a finger to trace a letter while saying the letter's sound. Do this on paper, in sand, or on a plate of sugar or jello - kids love to get messy!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<u><b>Write it down</b></u>. Have paper and pencils available for your kiddo to use for writing. Working together, write a sentence or two about something special. Encourage him/her to use the letters and sounds he/she's learning about in school.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<u><b>Play sound games</b></u>. Practice blending sounds into words. Ask "Can you guess what this word is? m - o - p." Hold each sound longer than you normally would and have your child put the word back together.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<u><b>Read it again and again</b></u>. Go ahead and read your child's favorite book for the 100th time! As you read, pause and ask your child about what is going on in the book, about the characters and about what he/she thinks will happen next.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<u><b>Talk about letters and sounds.</b></u> Help your child learn the names of the letters and the sounds the letters make. Turn it into a game! "I'm thinking of a letter and it makes the sound mmmmmm." "I'm thinking of the letter ____, what sound does it make?" (**Remember, some of our phonograms have more than one sound**)<br /><br /><b><u>Find it at home.</u></b> This can be an extension of the activities above. After your kiddo sames the letter or sound, ask him/her to find something around the house that has that letter/sound in it. You can also show him/her a magazine and have him/her circle all the letters that make that sound.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<b><u>Count it out</u></b>. Have your kiddos count objects around the house.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Count:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
-TVs</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
-dolls</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
-toys</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
-books</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
-people</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
-shoes</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
-chairs</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
-ANYTHING!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<u><b>Talk with your kiddo about school</b></u>. When he/she comes home from school, ask specific questions. Instead of saying, "How was your day?" ask, "What was the best thing that happened today at school?" or "Tell me one new thing that you learned today in kindergarten."</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
These are just a FEW of the activities families can do to connect school and home. Get creative and have fun - they are only this little for a while!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

Eek!Oh my goodness, I cannot believe the day has arrived. Tomorrow is the first day of school. I have been so busy this summer that I did not even get a chance to get a back to school outfit. *sigh*<br />
<br />
Doesn't matter anyway because I just found out they added seven kiddos to my list. That's right, SEVEN! I am dying over here because that means I will have 27 kindergarteners. I should be dressing for comfort tomorrow and nothing else. Do not be surprised if you see me in my yoga pants and sneakers - it's about to get crazy. Eek! Hopefully I have a great group of parents who have talked with their kiddos about behavior and school expectations.<br />
<br />
Seriously, I am having a panic attack.<br />
<br />
<br />
In other news... My classroom is pretty much set to go. I will most likely need to stay late a few days this weeks, but it WILL get done!<br />
I am in LURVE with my new anchor chart wall.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pIhcnthpoi8/UChX6mJdnqI/AAAAAAAAAPA/1Sn1t1RZfGY/s1600/photo+4+(3).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pIhcnthpoi8/UChX6mJdnqI/AAAAAAAAAPA/1Sn1t1RZfGY/s320/photo+4+(3).JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I have a very odd shaped room and have had this wall taunting me for a couple of years. Nothing seemed right in the space, I think this will be just perfect! Since it will be a 'working' wall, I did not want to put paper behind that would just be destroyed by staples in and staples out. You know?!<br />
<br />
Here is my word wall all set to go! (Paper looks weird because it has been so humid. It will settle soon.) I just bought a pack of ocean cutouts and wrote the letters on them. I made all the vowels the starfish. Below the word wall is the writing station. Fun fun!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Fban9AmRRLo/UChocjvN8pI/AAAAAAAAAPY/lC_iv3CJ3gY/s1600/photo+2+(4).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Fban9AmRRLo/UChocjvN8pI/AAAAAAAAAPY/lC_iv3CJ3gY/s320/photo+2+(4).JPG" width="320" /></a> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Q9N0Pmek2lU/UChqkWvfYvI/AAAAAAAAAPg/t36lvUNbquY/s1600/photo+3+(2).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Q9N0Pmek2lU/UChqkWvfYvI/AAAAAAAAAPg/t36lvUNbquY/s320/photo+3+(2).JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
This is where all my little kinders will be writing related sentences about how wonderful I am and expressing their appreciation for my magnificent teaching! True story.<br />
Our district put us on chair rations so I am only allotted 1chair/student. So, I went and bought some cute ones from Ikea. In this corner of the room, we have all things writing - writing ideas, <a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Workstations-Pack" target="_blank">writing accountability sheets</a>, lined paper, blank paper, markers, pens, crayons, write-on/wipe-off, letter practice, letter posters and more!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rFErIpSIa3U/UChrm3cB1mI/AAAAAAAAAP0/f7RQ-HN9Ivg/s1600/photo+2+(5).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rFErIpSIa3U/UChrm3cB1mI/AAAAAAAAAP0/f7RQ-HN9Ivg/s320/photo+2+(5).JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6AdkZjYkHzg/UChrggr0iQI/AAAAAAAAAPs/c5lq8XhZS9M/s1600/photo+3+(3).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6AdkZjYkHzg/UChrggr0iQI/AAAAAAAAAPs/c5lq8XhZS9M/s320/photo+3+(3).JPG" width="240" /></a> <br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Then I have my teaching cabinet behind my desk. Hmmm, I guess I don't really have a desk, just a table I sit at with kiddos for extra help and practice. Sometimes we just sit and chat!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
This is the cabinet where I hide all the bad kids. :/ Uh, I mean supplies. Isn't it funny what kids believe from books?! I like to highlight kids' work and showcase them as examples on our, "Reel Great Work" wall!<br />
<br />
On the other side I crafted this little file folder pocket chart. *Thank you <a href="http://thesilverlininginteaching.blogspot.com/2012/07/monday-made-it.html" target="_blank">Pinterest</a>! So far I have just been filling it with the papers I use all the time:<br />
*parent notes<br />
<a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Back2School-MINI-pack" target="_blank">*behavior charts</a><br />
*Dojo rewards menu<br />
*lined paper<br />
*parent contact list<br />
<br />
I will post pictures of how I organize my stations later on! I still have some cleaning to do!<br />
<br />
<br />
For Meet the Teacher night, I posted a bulletin board outside my room with some thought-bubbles, pens and the question, "What do you want to be when you grow up?"<br />
The answers were hilarious!
